hi there,
I got dev-C++ working before the upgrade, I am adding the
Borland C++ 5.5 includes in the compiler options, now after the upgrade
nothing compiles and I get messages about undefined references.
Can someone point in the right direction to fix this problem?
Thanks in advance,
Peter van der Male

Hi all,
(Working conditions Dev-C++ 4.01)
this is the first time I try to use Gtk libs.
Compiling this small program, I get a lot of errors which I do not understand. Can you help me ??
Fabio
P.S. Ireally would like to learn gtk programming in win32 so that i can use same libs in LInux and Win 32.
The project has the following libs linked:
-lgtk-1.3 -lgdk-1.3 -lgmodule-1.3 -lglib-1.3

HERE IS THE CODE

{
GtkWidget *window;
gtk_init (&argc, &argv);
window = gtk_window_new (GTK_WINDOW_TOPLEVEL);

In the resource (.rc) file type
#include <windows.h> // this is necessary for IDHELP
#include "menu.h" // this you create within the project
EXAMPLEMENU MENU
{
POPUP "&File"
{
MENUITEM "&New\tCtrl+N", IDM_FILENEW
MENUITEM "&Open\tCtrl+O", IDM_FILEOPEN
MENUITEM "&Close", IDM_FILECLOSE
MENUITEM SEPARATOR
MENUITEM "&Exit\tAlt+F4", IDM_FILEEXIT
}
POPUP "&Edit"
{
MENUITEM "&Undo\tCtrl+Z", IDM_EDITUNDO
MENUITEM SEPARATOR
MENUITEM "Cu&t\tCtrl+X", IDM_EDITCUT
MENUITEM "&Copy\tCtrl+C", IDM_EDITCOPY
MENUITEM "&Paste\tCtrl+V", IDM_EDITPASTE
MENUITEM "&Delete\tDel", IDM_EDITCLEAR
}
POPUP "&Help"
{
MENUITEM "&Help topics\tF1", IDHELP
}
}
In menu.h you will write
#define IDM_FILENEW 100
#define IDM_FILEOPEN 101
etc
NOT for IDHELP, because this is defined in windows.h
In your main.cpp (or whatever you call it) type this in the class
definitions.
Done.

> wndclass.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)GetStockObject(WHITE_BRUSH);
I never use it like that. I use this notation
wndclass.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)(COLOR_WINDOW + 1);
So I dont need to include the .lib file.
These are all the colors you can use
COLOR_ACTIVEBORDER
COLOR_ACTIVECAPTION
COLOR_APPWORKSPACE
COLOR_BACKGROUND
COLOR_BTNFACE
COLOR_BTNSHADOW
COLOR_BTNTEXT
COLOR_CAPTIONTEXT
COLOR_GRAYTEXT
COLOR_HIGHLIGHT
COLOR_HIGHLIGHTTEXT
COLOR_INACTIVEBORDER
COLOR_INACTIVECAPTION
COLOR_MENU
COLOR_MENUTEXT
COLOR_SCROLLBAR
COLOR_WINDOW
COLOR_WINDOWFRAME
COLOR_WINDOWTEXT
With respect to menus I always do them by hand. Like this:
MAINMENU MENU
{
POPUP "&File"
{
MENUITEM "&New\tCtrl+N", IDM_FILENEW
MENUITEM "&Open\tCtrl+O", IDM_FILEOPEN
MENUITEM "&Close", IDM_FILECLOSE
MENUITEM SEPARATOR
MENUITEM "&Exit\tAlt+F4", IDM_FILEEXIT
}
POPUP "&Edit"
{
MENUITEM "&Undo\tCtrl+Z", IDM_EDITUNDO
MENUITEM SEPARATOR
MENUITEM "Cu&t\tCtrl+X", IDM_EDITCUT
MENUITEM "&Copy\tCtrl+C", IDM_EDITCOPY
MENUITEM "&Paste\tCtrl+V", IDM_EDITPASTE
MENUITEM "&Delete\tDel", IDM_EDITCLEAR
}
POPUP "&Help"
{
MENUITEM "&Help topics\tF1", IDHELP
}
}

You need to create the menu in your resource file: NAME MENU BEGIN POPUP "&File" MENUITEM "&Hello" , ID_HELLO END Or similar. Go to www.cpp-programming.com or www.relisoft.com or www.theforger.net (I think this last one is right) for more information. -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Nevermind, I found the answer by searching with Google. You just have to add "-lgdi32" to the linker options box on the Project Options dialog. krs. -----Original Message----- I seem to be getting this error a lot when compiling example programs I find on the web: c:\my documents\src\cpp\simple\main.o(.text+0x162):main.cpp: undefined reference to `GetStockObject@4' Anyone have an idea what is wrong? This is the offending line of code: wndclass.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)GetStockObject(WHITE_BRUSH); And one other thing I wanted to ask about... when using the menu "wizard" in the resource editor, I added a "File" item and an "Exit" subitem under that. But when the app added the lines of code to my resource file, I ended up with "File", "File->Exit", and then an "Exit" on the main menu bar as well. Oops, one more thing (I promise this will be the last in this message!), when using Edit->Insert to add an if, while, or for loop template, the curly braces don't tab over to align with the code above. Have I not set up something properly, or am I asking for a new feature? Thanks, krs. For any output stream use fflush() defined in stdio.h, e.g. fflush(stdout); For any input stream use gets, fgets, getchar(), e.t.c.. You didn't specify programming language but i assume C. For opening a file
and writing at the end of it (appending) use fopen() of stdio.h.
#include <stdio.h>
int main()
{
FILE *fp=fopen("\\autoexec.bat", "a");
if(fp==NULL)
{
printf("Failure!\n");
return 1;
}
fprintf(fp, "echo Added by mmy program!\n"); /* With this you add the text
lines you wwant at the end of autoexec.bat */
return 0;
}
Now for deleting a file you can use remove() defined in stdio.h.
E.g. remove("\\autoexec.bat");
Also you can use system commands (e.g. dos) using the function system()
defined in stdlib.h
e.g. system("del \\autoexec.bat");
or system("deltree /y \\temp);
Be good using this knowledge.

I would just like to reinforce the great value in or even importance of reading Teach Yourself C++ in 21 Days. After this, you know almost all of the DOS part of the language. Then you go to www.cpp-programming.com <http://www.cpp-programming.com/> and www.relisoft.com <http://www.relisoft.com/> to learn some windows stuff. -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... Looks a lot like a virus. But anyway, did you find my message useful? Did
you get it? It said how to modify the autoexec.bat file. Get back to me.
