Ok, this isn't a DJGPP list, but I have some experience with it.
Mainly, make sure that you select the option -lalleg in the
options(or it may be libraries screen) screen of Rhide, and make
sure it is checked.
Also, to install allegro make sure to extract it to the same directory
as your DJGPP root, it will create it's own sub folders, then switch
to the Allegro root, and run make. Then I think on some systems
you need to run make install also. :)

Hi there... Please help me!! I'm dieing for this!
I've just downloaded DJGPP, and the Allegro. When i open the Rhide and try to
compile the following code, it's says "OK". But, when i select "run", it's
goes wild with all kinds of error-messages.
Here's the code;
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include "allegro.h"
int main(void)
{
allegro_init();
istall_keyboard();
set_gfx_mode(GFX_VGA, 320, 200, 0, 0);
set_palette(desktop_pallete);
textout_centre(screen, font, "Hello, world!", SCREEN_W/2, SCREEN_H/2, 255);
readkey();
return 0;
}
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
------
And... here's all those wierd error-messages;
Compilling: ex1copy.c
no errors
Creating: ex1copy.exe
Error: ex1copy.o: In function 'main':
ex1copy.c(8) Error: undefined reference to 'allegro_init'
..and it goes on like that, with all the other functions, and then;
Error: collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
There were some errors
...yea, I'll say!?
Well, I really would apreciate it if anyone could help me, since I'm all new
to DJGPP/Allegro/Rhide!
Thanks :-)

You got it!
First I usualy write the *.cpp-Code and copy the first line into the
header-file
My header looked like this
int get_wibble(void){
! but without a closing curly bracket !
All other methods of that class got a correct header. But ALL methods of that
class got declared as wrong by the compiler, weird?!?
ThanX so far :-)

Hi, there
Does anyone know if I can use Dev C++ for writing programs to run on
Unix environment (anything special to be careful about)? Or any
similar user friendly IDE for that purpose? Thanks a lot!

Can you show us the header code you have defined for the class method in
question?
It sometimes helps if we can see the code to understand what went wrong.
It could possibly be that you have declared and defined the method in the
header, something like...
class wibble
{
public:
int get_wibble() {};
...
};
Here you have defined the method get_wibble and created an empty definition
of the code. Remove the superfluous {} and add the following in to the .cpp
file...
int wibble::get_wibble()
{
return 1+1;
}

James.

Subject: [Dev-C++] compiler error ?!?
Hi folks,
I deklarated a class 'Gerts' with some methods in a header file named
'GERTS.hpp'
The Implementation of that constructor and the methods are contained in
a file called 'GERTS.cpp' which contains the precompiler command
#include "GERTS.hpp".
The compiler complains now with the following error message:
7 gerts.cpp `Gerts::Gerts()' has already been declared in `Gerts'
which points to the constructor.
It is the same with all the deklarated methods:
83 gerts.cpp `Gerts::RegPicture(Picture *)' has already been
declared in `Gerts'
98 gerts.cpp `Gerts::GetMaxNumberOfPics()' has already been declared
in `Gerts'
... (and so on for ALL 32 methods)
Has anybody a idea what went wrong?
Gregor

Try this:
#include <stdio.h>
#include <stdlib.h>
#include <string>
using namespace std;
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
// C++ String
string input_string = "123456";
int conv_number = 0;
// c_str() returns a char*
conv_number = atoi(input_string.c_str());
cout << "String converted to a number = " << conv_number << endl;
cout << "conv_number + 100 = " << conv_number + 100 << endl;
return 0;
}

Subject: [Dev-C++] string conversion to integer
I thought I knew how to convert string objects to integer. I
thought a character (e.g., input_string[2] of object string input_string)
could be referenced in a string and converted using the C ASCII-to-integer
function atoi. However, the compiler doesn`t like that and apparently does
not see an element of a string array as a character.
How do you do this? Thanks, Alan

Im sorry, I realise that the character is valid and meaningful in Spanish but as far as I know, the author of the book (Jesse Liberty) did not intend it to mean anything as part of the C++ code in the book. -----Original Message----- From: dev...@li... I beg your pardon! "this n with a ~ above it" is the 25th letter of the Spanish alphabet, and means to me exactly the same as any other letter of the alphabet could. Has the code any relation with Spanish? I mean, is there a list of names or something like that? It is my understanding that atoi converts its argument, the whole string.
However, to convert a part of a string(a sequence of characters) you would
have to use strtod or strtol. All of these functions convert strings of
DIGITS to integers, doubles, floats etc.
The strod function receives two arguments, 1. a string and 2. a pointer to a
string.
The strol function receives three arguments 1. a string, 2. a pointer to a
string, and an integer which signifies the base of the value to be
converted.
If you are trying to convert a character such as A just use the %d
conversion specifier.
i.e.
char string[] = "grapes";
printf("%s\n", string);
printf("%d\n\n", string[3]);
output looks like:
grapes
112
Hope this helps.

I have a program that runs in user input mode or fully automatic
mode, based on a command line parameter. I would like it to start up a
console (DOS window) when it is in user input mode but not start a console
when it runs in automatic mode. I can do one or the other by telling it to
create or not create a console for the project, but I cannot do both. Is
there a way to do this with an option or in my code?
Thanks, Alan

In the DLL package there is the header file, a import library file (zlibdll.lib that i rename in libzlib.a and move to te directory "lib") and the DLL. In the project options I put -lzlib (linker options). The project is well compiled but when I run the program a message box tell me "The file prog.exe is is linked with a missing "exportation" ZLIB.DLL.: (in french: Le fichier prog.exe est li=E9 =E0 une exportation manquante...). To anyone who will help,
When creating a new Windows project, the editor section
contains base windows code. Do I write my program code underneath that base
code? Email me your answer to Paul at prs...@cs...

Try to use the correct main function.
int main()
{
// your code here
return 0;
}

Hi everyone,
I receive the following errorormessage:
7 gerts.cpp `Gerts::Gerts()' has already been declared in `Gerts'
for the implementation of the constructor of my class 'Gerts'.
and for ALL methods deklared in that class (file: 'GERTS.hpp').
83 gerts.cpp `Gerts::RegPicture(Picture *)' has already been
declared in `Gerts'
XX gerts.cpp 'Gerts::Method_1(Parameter list )' has already been
declares in 'Gerts'
XX gerts.cpp 'Gerts::Method_2(Parameter list )' has already been
declares in 'Gerts'
...
I am sure my header files and the #include(s) "GERTS.hpp" are all right.
It worked fine so far until I changed something in a different class,
(undoing it doesen't help)!
Does anyone can imagine what happend?

Try to avoid the use of global variables.

using std::rand;

srand(time(0)); // If srand() is given a standard value, rand() produces the

It has, the rand() of the standard library. rand() produces a value from 0
to RAND_MAX. Usually RAND_MAX equals to 32767 but if you want to be portable
use RAND_MAX. So, if you want to produce values from 0 to 2 (3 values) use:
int dice_1=rand()/(RAND_MAX/3);
> }while(dice_1 >7);
// Use the trick i told you above.

I did not check the whole program, see my suggestions and fix it. :)
